Click "Install" in the Shopify App Store. The app doesn't change your theme's code: it only appears in your store once you add its block in the theme editor. To try it out first, add the block to a copy of your theme and check it in the preview.
In the next step, you will be shown which authorizations the app requires. Agree to the requested authorizations and click on "Install" to continue with the installation of the app.
Once the installation is complete, you will be taken to the start page of the app. The app is also displayed in the menu on the left side. By clicking on the pin symbol to the right of the title, you can pin the app to the navigation bar.
Below, we explain how you can set up the app after installation.
In the left sidebar of your Shop Admin, under "Product finder", click on "Plans". On our plan overview page, you can see the available plans along with their prices and features. Choose between the Free Plan, which is ideal for getting acquainted with the app, and the paid Pro and Pro Extended Plans. The Pro Plan offers advanced features such as multiple product finders, templates, more questions and products, all styles and color palettes, your store's own colors, product cards with match and add to cart, your own images on the answers and translations. The Pro Extended Plan adds the path editor, more product finders, more questions and more languages. To switch, click the button in the box of the desired plan. You will be forwarded to Shopify, where you confirm the plan. Both paid plans can be tested free of charge for 7 days and are billed directly via Shopify.
Click on "Product finder" in the left sidebar of your Shop Admin to open the overview of your product finders. With the Pro Plan, you can start from a template under "Templates": questions, answers, icons and a matching design are ready, you only link your products and adjust the texts. Click through the preview of a template to try its questions, then click "Use template". On the Free Plan, or if you prefer your own questions, click "Create product finder" or the tile "New product finder" and start from scratch.
The new product finder opens in the editor. It isn't visible in your store until you add the block to your theme (steps 5 and 6). You can change its internal name at any time under "More actions" > "Rename". The name is only shown to you, not to your customers.
In the editor, open the "Start" section to write the heading, text and button text of the start screen, the first thing your customers see. Then open the "Questions" section. Give each question a text and add its answers. For each answer, click "Link products" and select the products from your store that fit this answer. An answer without products means "doesn't matter". After the last question, your customers see the products that fit the most of their answers first.
Under "More settings" of a question, you can allow several answers ("Multiple choice"), leave out every product that doesn't fit the chosen answer ("Must match", e.g. for sizes), allow skipping the question ("Can be skipped") and ask the question only after certain answers to earlier questions ("Show only if …"). If you want to see at a glance which products fit which answers, switch "Show answers as" to "Table: products × answers".
A list above the questions shows what still needs checking, e.g. questions without text, answers without products or questions no customer can reach.
In the "Results" section, set the heading and text above the recommendations and how many products are shown. Under "On every product card", choose what the cards show: the price, the answers a product fits ("Fits"), and with the Pro Plan the match, the wishes met, an add to cart button and a comparison of up to 3 products.
In the "Design" section, choose the layout, a drawn style and a color palette, or your store's own colors (Pro Plan). The answers then show icons drawn in that style, so you don't need images of your own. You can also choose how the start screen looks: an illustration, an image on the right, (Pro Plan) an image as background, or text only.
The live preview next to the editor shows your product finder exactly as your customers will see it, on desktop and on a phone. Click through it to try every answer. Click "Save" to apply the changes to your store.
In the left sidebar of your Shop Admin, under "Product finder", click on "Help" and then on "Open theme editor". The theme editor opens with the product finder block already added to your home page. Move it to the desired position and save.
Alternatively, you can add the block manually: In your Shop Admin, click on "Online Store" in the left sidebar, select your desired theme and click "Customize" next to it. In the top bar, use the dropdown menu to choose the template where you want to show the product finder (e.g. home page, page, product or collection). Click "Add section" in the left sidebar and choose the "Product finder" block in the "Apps" tab.
Please note: App blocks require an Online Store 2.0 theme (e.g. Dawn or Horizon). The "Help" page checks whether your theme supports app blocks.
Click on the product finder block in the left sidebar of the theme editor. Under "Product finder", select the product finder you created in the app. Save your settings by clicking the "Save" button located in the top right corner of the theme editor.
The "Help" page shows the setup guide with your progress. Once the block is in your theme and a product finder is selected, all steps are marked as completed. The editor also shows at the top whether the product finder is live in your store.
As certain theme, app, and shop configurations may affect proper functionality, it is recommended to test whether the product finder displays and operates correctly in your shop as intended. Answer the questions in your store, check the recommended products and, if you have turned it on, add a product to the cart.
Tip: If you use conditions, open the "Paths" view in the "Questions" section. It shows which questions appear after which answers and which products each path leads to.
The start screen shows a heading, a text and a button that starts the questions. In the "Design" section, you choose its look: an illustration in the selected colors, an image on the right, an image as background (Pro Plan) or text only. The image comes from your store's files, or you upload a new one.
Each question has a text, an optional note and its answers. Each answer has a text, an icon or (Pro Plan) your own image, and the products it fits. The Free Plan allows up to 4 questions and 15 products per product finder, the Pro Plan up to 10 questions and 100 products, the Pro Extended Plan up to 15 questions and 100 products. Use "Up" and "Down" to change the order of the questions.
A product ranks higher the more questions it matches with the chosen answers. Answers without products mean "doesn't matter" and don't count, nor do skipped questions. With equal points, the product that fits more of the chosen answers (with multiple choice) comes first, then available products, then your order. Sold-out products stay in the results, marked as sold out, but never come first while another matching product is available.
Customers can pick several answers to this question.
Normally, products that don't fit the answer just move down. With "Must match" they're left out entirely, e.g. for sizes. With several such questions, the editor warns you under "Things to check" when a combination of answers has no product left.
Customers see a "Skip" button. A skipped question doesn't count for the recommendation, and the results show a note that questions were skipped. For "No preference", add an answer without products instead.
Ask a question only after certain answers to earlier questions. All other customers skip it. In the "Questions" section, switch the view from "List" to "Paths" to see every path through your product finder, from the start to the results, with the number of products on each path.
Instead of conditions, draw where each answer leads: in the "Paths" view, click "Edit paths" and drag a line from an answer to the question it should lead to, or to the results. Answers without a line of their own lead to the next question in the list. Loops can't be saved. On smaller plans, the path editor is locked. If you switch back from Pro Extended, your paths stay saved, and your store follows the list with its conditions until you upgrade again.
Under "Show answers as", you can show the answers of a question as a table. Tick the answers each product fits. New products are linked in the list with "Link products".
Above the questions, the editor lists what may not work as intended: questions without text, answers without text, questions without products, questions no customer can reach, paths without products and linked products that don't show in your store (deleted, draft or archived).
Set the heading and text above the recommendations and the number of products shown (up to 12). If more products fit, the results say how many of the matching products are shown.
Every product card shows the image, title and price, with the price note from the theme block, and optionally the answers a product fits ("Fits"). With the Pro Plan, you can also show the match (e.g. "92% match", once at least 2 answers with products count), the wishes met and what's missing, an add to cart button (or a link to the product page) and a comparison of up to 3 products side by side. Title, price, image and availability come directly from your products in Shopify.
Choose how the questions are shown: "Tiles" (also on the Free Plan), "List" or "Live results" (Pro Plan), where the matching products appear next to the questions while customers answer.
Drawn styles adapt the answers, the start screen and the progress to your store, no images needed. The Free Plan includes Style 1 and 5 color palettes, the Pro Plan all styles and palettes as well as your store's own colors: a main color and an accent color, e.g. your button color. Very light colors are darkened so text stays readable. You can also turn on rounded corners and a transparent background.
Instead of an icon, show your own image on an answer, from your store's files or uploaded new.
Translate the texts of a product finder into your store's other languages: up to 5 languages per product finder with the Pro Plan and up to 20 with the Pro Extended Plan, including your main language. Customers see the language they browse your store in; texts you leave empty show in your main language. Buttons and other fixed texts are available in 14 languages. Add languages in Shopify under "Settings" > "Languages" first.
Ready-made product finders, e.g. for gifts, mattresses, dog food, coffee, skincare or bikes, with questions, answers, icons and a matching design. You link your products and adjust the texts. On the Free Plan, you can click through every template in the preview.
The preview in the editor shows the product finder exactly as your store shows it, on desktop or on a phone. Use the arrows to go through the start screen, the questions and the results. Without linked products, it shows sample products.
In the editor under "More actions", you can rename a product finder and, with the Pro Plan, duplicate it, e.g. to create a version for another collection. Deleting a product finder permanently deletes it and removes it from your store. This can't be undone.
In the theme editor, the block's settings set the maximum width of the product finder and the spacing above and below. Under "Prices", you can turn the note under prices on or off and enter your own text. Leave the field empty for the default text in the store's language (e.g. "incl. VAT, plus shipping").
Only needed if the product finder doesn't show up in the block's list, e.g. after reinstalling the app. Open the product finder in the app, choose "More actions" > "Copy handle" at the top and paste it into the block's "Finder handle" field. A handle entered there takes precedence over the selection.
